How much does it cost for a new timing chain for 2000 Daewoo Lanos?

you mean timing belt? looking at 2.5 hours labor in the estimating guide.

Plus whatever the parts run.

double overhead cam motor in it. real simple design actually. Not alot involved in that job. Most shops will probally say 3 hours labor though. The belt (factory price) is $63.08. so probally 50 bucks at autostore.|||good luck finding the part or any part for a daewoo for that matter. most have to be shipped overseas since all the dealers closed up..

Where can I get parts for my 1999 Daewoo Matiz?

I know Daewoo had shut down, but herd they still sale parts. In case something happens to the car I was wondering if anyone could tell me a good website where I could order spare parts from please?

Thanks|||Its actually Chevrolet that bought over Daewoo in the UK, so if you google search your local Chevy dealer they will still hold parts for your motor. The Chevy badged models are basically the same cars as the Matiz and Nubia|||Go to your local dealer, it's called Chevrolet.|||Daewoo are now Chevrolet. Their dealers will be able to supply parts. Alternatively try your local motor factor or a site like www.eurocarparts.com|||ebay|||You could probably use parts from a blender or can opener since it's a Daewoo. :)

What is specs for setting timing belt on a 1999 daewoo lanos?

When changing a timing belt, getting it EXACTLY RIGHT is CRITICAL.

If you are one tooth out on any of the important gears your engine will not run properly. If you are several teeth out you run the risk of bending the intake and exhaust valves rendering the engine useless.

I'm assuming you know where the timing belt is and how to get to it.

The timing belt runs around several gears these include gears on the crankshaft and on the camshaft. They are the critical ones. It will also run around several idler pulleys, a tensioner and possibly the water pump drive.

There are two types of timing belt alignment systems that I know of. One is where the timing gears and block/head have corresponding marks and the other is the timing gears have marks that line up with marks on the timing belt itself.

System one.

All of the critical gears will have a mark on them, such as an indented dot, raised dot or small arrow. These marks can sometimes be hard to find. Now each of those marks will have a corresponding mark on the block/head. You need to wind the engine over by hand until all these marks line up. Remembering that for every revolution of the crankshaft the camshaft will only do 1/2 a revolution.

Now release the spring loaded tensioner and remove the old belt. The cam shaft gear may move as you release tension as it is under load from the valve springs. You may want to make a wooden wedge to gently tap in between the gear and the head to stop it from moving prior to releasing tensioner..

When replacing the belt it is imperative that all of the marks still line up once the new belt is in place and under correct tension from the spring loaded tensioner. Don't forget to tighten up the tensioner locking bolt.

Now wind the engine over by hand several times and then check for alignment of the marks again remembering the 2 to 1 ratio of the crankshaft to the camshaft. If all marks still line up then you're right to start the engine. Once you're happy that the engine is running correctly replace the covers.

System two.

This system is virtually the same but the marks on the gears must align with the corresponding marks on the timing belt itself. The marks on the timing belt are white lines that run across the belt.

Having said all that I must say proceed at own risk. If you get it right you will save a few hundred dollars by doing it yourself. Get it wrong and you risk destroying your engine.

Good luck.|||hat spec are you looking for? go by the book and be done.|||they have been discontinued for years in usa

Can a 2001 daewoo lanos engine be replaced by a 2000 daewoo lanos engine?

i have a 2001 daewoo lanos, with a blown engine. i found a 2000 daewoo that had some body damage but still a good engine. i want to replace it but im not sure if the engine will fit.|||Yes, it will fit.|||I'm sure it will.

I have bought a 1999 daewoo lanos that wont start. I bought the car knowing that there was a problem?

i knew there qwas a problem with starting the car, i was told it was the ignition. i had a guy to check it out, he has put new starter motor on, still no luck, the car will start on bump or jump and will run until turned of with the key. i was told i needed and imobiliser key, and then i was told you would not be able to drive it if this is so, im confussed could somebodyn help|||That is a coded key. If it does require that key, you have to find the dealer that sold the car originally. That would sound about right. The key cuts the battery power off from the car. These have been in cars since about 1988. Many high end cars had them, and now every car has them. It will run you about 100.00 dollars for the key

What is the proper torque procedure for the head bolts of a Daewoo lanos?

2000 Daewoo lanos 4cyl.|||HOLD IT!!!!!! THE OTHER GUYS ARE WRONG! The way you do it is-you start on the center bolts on the one closest to the exhaust manifold then the one in the middle on the intake side then the one on the exhaust side to your right of of the bolt in the middle then the one in that same position closest the intake manifold then you go to the one to your left of the center bolt and and do the same thing do them all(10) this way going from the center going out towards the ends, the one at the end on the timing belt side towards the intake should be the tenth one you tighten,The last one on the tranni side closest to the intake should be the 7th one you tighten hope you got that.Tighten18 lbs.first time around then 90 degrees then 90 degrees then another 90 degrees. Then you're done.make sure to replace the timing belt tension er with original (GM) e-mail if more help needed!Good Luck!|||mobilmen59 is RIGHT. You start in the middle and work to the ends.|||I don`t know the torque procedure for the head bolts on a daewoo I would spend a few dollars and buy a manual in the long run it will save you more money than the cost of the book|||The torque procedure is you start at one outer corner, and spin it on (not torqued yet). Then the opposite corner (in an X manner) and spin it on (again not torqued yet). Then back to the other side and do the same with the other, and then cross back over to the fourth corner. And from then on, you work your way to the middle doing the x manner. Then go back and torque them all down according to specs in the same order.|||I like to use the blue-tip torque wrench on Daewoo.

Just till it starts to smoke and bubble.

What difference does it make?

It'll never run right anyways.

For what it's worth listen to mobilmen

Those otherguys don't know wtf they are talking about.

But you can follow mobilmen's procedure for almost any engine with aluminum heads.

Can a Chevy Cabolt engine be swapped into a Daewoo Lanos engine bay?

That's Cobalt, and only if it's automatic, because they are the same transmission, where GM has owned Daewoo for sometime now. It would fit but would be allot of work, the whole wiring harness would have to be changed, and fuel system, motor mounts, custom hoses. But if you have lots of free time and money, Get-ER-Done.|||It might but you probably want to do more research|||why ?|||Daweoo is bankrupt and no longer selling parts, accesories, anything, wouldnt suggest it! Putting all that work into something you can never get anything for.|||um why would you want that?

Why are the battery and brake lights on 2000 Daewoo Leganza?

Quick and Dirty: My battery and brake lights are dimly lit with the car running. My battery crapped out today, I was able to jump it and get about 4-5 miles. Replaced the battery and the lights are still on.

Long Story: 3 days ago I 'fixed' my tail light problem. The driver's side tail-light would stay on with the headlights on-- basically the wire that ran near the fuse box along the trim broke, I rigged it with a thicker gauge wire.-- I don't know if this cause have jacked up my electrical system!

After I 'fixed' the wire, the next time I started my car the lights came on as described above and my radio had reset to (like I disconnected the battery or unplugged the radio all together). Today, the battery died in traffic (after a really weak start and the car slowly powering down)... the air bag light came on and the other two lights went off.

I was able to jump the car and get it 4-5 miles-- at this point, out of fear the wiring was the cause-- I re-disconnected the wiring I fixed-- with no change/improvement.

I took my battery back to AutoZone and had it checked, got a 'Bad Battery' from the machine. I put a new battery in this afternoon and the car is running fine (for now) but the two lights are still on as described above...

ANY IDEAS??? Did I fry something or did my alternator go at the exact time I 'fixed' my tail light wiring problem.

Other stuff: I already checked my radio-- no loose wires or improper connections. I don't know if there are any fuses I should check in the car??!?

Thanks!|||well its still a good idea to check your fuses and if you have a multi meter check the battiery when running it should read 14.5 volts if not you have a bad altonater. and with you tail lights did you tape up your splice?

Can anyone think of a reason that my Daewoo 27" TV recently started emitting a high-pitched electronic squeal?

I've tried changing the outlet that it is plugged into and adjusting the coaxial cable input and RCA leads coming from the DVD player. Neither helped. The noise is coming from the speakers that are built into the TV.

Any advice?|||If you are sure that it is from the speakers itself; sometimes the electromagnetic fields in the back of the TV may produce a very high pitched voice; like a dog whistle:- if that is the case try turning it to another higher channel then to a very lower channel put it on standby , when it comes back there is a chance that it will turn out OK; it is usually caused by the malfunction of certain capacitors on the mother board.

But if it is from the speakers, you can take it to a repair shop and they will install some special capacitor filters which can reduce the noise in the system.

Hope this helps.

QNS :- daneengineer@yahoo.com|||this happened to my tv too and the reason is that something else is interfering with the frequency or you are uing too much electricity.also try to change audio/volume controlls

good luck|||I would suggest to use a VCR for your Cable and output the RCA wires to a stereo receiver. As to the noise, I'm not too sure. Sorry!

I had a Daewoo TV once, and man....I hated that thing. It used to always turn off every 20-30 minutes. Especially sucked when I was playing video games. hahaha. Got rid of years ago. I'm so happy now.|||Don't buy those brands any more, my cousin had a daewoo car and the transmission went out, after a year!|||it is squealing to be turned off, unplugged, have its innards removed, and turned into a frame for a painting, a flower box, or perhaps made into a shelving unit that can support a more complacent television.

by the way, wrathpup:

have you ever done anything at all?

there is your genetic proof that "god" exists. (no really!)|||Daewoo is a noname. Piece of crap (the TV).

How is the Hyunday mark talking about cars, Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Daewoo?

Only for experts in cars I'd like to know about best and worst marks, like Daewoo, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai, Kia, Geo Metro, MItsubishi, Ford, etc, characteristics, comments, opiniosn, advices, tips, talk about the repairs, etc|||Every manufacturer has its jewels and its junk. Hyundai is making strides but is still just catching up. These cars have too many little problems and annoyances from my experience working at a dealership that repairs Hyundai's as well as other makes. Hyundai is an entry level automobile like KIA, Saturn and daewoo, so economy is everything. Buy these cars if you have a short commute to school or work and regard a car as just transportation. They have a good warranty but it is limited and contingent upon consistent service records on your part. Best Hyundai is a v6 sonata 03-05. Worst is 4cyl sonata / 4cyl santa fe of any year.

Subaru has been one of the cars I have been impressed with mechanically. Most people with Subarus like them and really do not trade them in. In my opinion, they are generally bulletproof and great in the snow. It is a car you have to drive to appreciate. You either like it or not. Best subaru is the legacy 98 - present, any trim level. worst subaru is the impreza sti - hard to get certain repairs covered under warranty.

Mitsubishi is a notch or two above Hyundai. In my opinion, they used to be great cars but now, you have to spend some good money to get a decent one. I think the problem is that the U.S. versions are too watered down. Mitsubishi has a lot of high tech engines and electronics that never make it into U.S. models. best mitsubishi - they kept it in japan. worst mitsubishi -any awd turbo model - crappy warranty.

Nissan makes good cars. The engines are solid and the electrical system is sound. It really boils down to style when choosing a nissan over another car with a similar trac record. From working with nissans, with the exception of the cvt trannies, it's rare to find one with transmission problems. not so with mitsubishi, kia and hyundai. Best nissan is the 2wd xterra of any year. worst nissan - 2.5 altima 2002 and up.

Mazda cars are now mazda - ford - volvo hybrids. they were in the same boat as nissan with the exception of the tribute which is a full ford anyway and is way to electronically sophisticated for what it really is. all the cars are new complete redesigns so no major malfunction trends have popped up -as of yet. best mazda - B3000 2wd truck any year which is a rebadged ford ranger. worst mazda - Rx8, the wrong type of people buy this car - whiny complainer types. This is a pure sports car that drives stiff and will turn and stop on a dime. It also needs higher than normal maintenance which most Rx8 owners are too cheap to stay on top of. Most owners are unfamiliar with the engine technology and treat it like any other car, thus, the root of where 90% of the issues lie.

Volkswagen is another car i have some experience with. It's up and down with volkswagen's reliability. People who love them keep buying new ones. people who hate them are used to something a bit more stylish and faster or they just don't like them period. The vw here in the us is a watered down german knock off with the way better models in europe, but it has remained the best selling german car in america for the last decade. probably because it is the cheapest. best vw - diesel golf 99-2004, diesel new beetle - any year, best gas mileage. worst vw - tie between w8 passat and v8 touareg w/ air ride suspension and navi - too pricey, too slow, gas guzzling and too much electronics that fail.

My best pick out of the above mentioned cars would have to be a tie between the subaru legacy 98 and up and the 2wd nissan xterra of any year. those are two cars that i have practically worked on equally and never seen any major problems as compared to other cars of the same makes respectively. They are basically trouble free, great on brakes, great on gas and timing belts, for applicable models, last 120k miles easy. worst problem on both cars would have to be the exhaust systems. rust / catalyst issues.

This is just my opinion based on what i have seen, experienced or heard from other mechanics i work with.|||Hmmm Honda Is Good and reliable car and have a great engine

(Honda is betta den Subaru) Subaru is in 5th place in japan

Honda is in 1st

Give Hyundai a couple more years and they may break through. Daewoo, Kia, Geo, %26amp; Mitsu have a way to go in terms of quality and resale values. Ford is ok, some of their vehicles have plain interiors. Nissan is a good vehicle, but some people don't necessarily appreciate CVT. If it is the cam belt and it hasn't snapped should it really cost this much?|||If it is the timing belt (camshaft belt) then yes,it could cost that. The main problem is getting parts for Daewoo cars.Over 60% are now obsolete.Usually, cam belts,do not squeal, but the water pump does.Check your temperature guage and see if it is running hot.If it isn't then it would be more likely that your tensioner, drive belt or alternator,is the one squealing.

Thanks in Advance.|||There used to be a Daewoo dealer in the Enterprise Park (about quarter of a mile further down the road from the Royal Mail sorting office) but I'm not sure if it's still there.

To be honest I don't think disconnecting the light will allow you to pass the test. When a car with ABS is MOT'd the MOT Computer Database tells the tester the sequence of operation that the light on your model should follow (for example I drive an MR2 and the sequence for it is the light will illuminate for 1 second after the ignition is switched on then will go off). If it doesn't follow its correct sequence or doesn't show at all then it could be failed.|||You need to have the fault repaired.

Mercedes Benz is a German company, Saab is Swedish. Mercedes is not owned by another car company. Saab is owned by General Motors (but GM is looking for a buyer for Saab as Saab has been a steady money loser for the General), first with a 50% share in 1989 and then buying them outright in 2000.

As a side note, Suzuki also sells a version of the same Daewoo car as the "Swift+"|||made in korea/out of business in us just logo change|||1st: Mercedes is part of Daimer AG, a German conglomerate which also owns Freightliner and other heavy truck companies. Saab is a GM brand that is not long for this world.

GM purchased Daewoo many years ago. In Europe, Daewoo was selling poorly because they made horrible little rotboxes, but the GM management didn't realize this, and assumed that people would look through the poor design and quality of their Daewoo products if they put the Chevrolet bowtie on the front. In the US, GM management realized that they didn't have very good small cars, so they brought the Daewoo Matiz over as the Chevy Aveo probably to boost the Cobalt's popularity, because the Aveo didn't sell well, again due to the fact that it is a horribly designed and built little miserable little excuse for a car. Pontiac dealers realized that they were missing out (on what, im not quite sure) and demanded that GM rebadge the rebadged Matiz as a Pontiac, surely helping to accelerate the death of the Pontiac brand.

Then GM bought their manufacturing plants, and the name, but stranded the dealers in it's contracts. So Daewoo dealers were suing GM because of what, when GM made the deal off-shore, NOT here.

But if currently you own one, and need parts, please visit Suzuki. Because to appease dealers, GM owns a minority stake in Suzuki (I believe 13%), and made some Daewoo models, into Suzukis. I believe only really the XL7, is that shares the most vehicle that is more GM (Torrent, Equinox), but the rest are rebadged and redesigned Daewoo's.

Ironically I read just 2 months ago, this article in the Detroit News, about someone who made alot of research and was trying to avoid vehicles made in the U.S., or owned by U.S. manufacturer. Then a picture of him standing in front of his XL7 and Acura TL with a big grin on his face.

How is the Hyunday mark talking about cars, Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Daewoo?

Only for experts in cars I'd like to know about best and worst marks, like Daewoo, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai, Kia, Geo Metro, MItsubishi, Ford, etc, characteristics, comments, opiniosn, advices, tips, talk about the repairs, etc|||--Japanese cars are still generally the most reliable--I'd place Toyota, Honda and Subaru at the top. Some of Nissan's models are very good, but some of their SUVs and vans are unreliable. Mitsubishi models seem to be quite reliable as well. Many (but not all) Japanese cars are very good overall performers.

I might just add a bit more about Subaru, since I drive one-- Subaru reliabilty is quite consistent across the entire line-up and the AWD system is bulletproof, but they have high repair costs when something does go wrong. I've found that access for the minor stuff (headlight bulbs, latch mechanisms, etc) is easy.

--Many Hyundai and Kia models are based off the same platforms, so they are very similar in most respects. While they still aren't the most reliable, they've made enormous gains over the last 10 years (this applies to their overall performance in general as well).

--For North American cars, the big three have some good cars and some bad ones. Some of Ford's newer models seem to be doing well, but traditionally North-American cars are troublesome in their first year. North American vans and SUVs seem to have more problems than their cars--newer GM minivans come to mind. Some of the older designs--GM's midsized cars, for instance--do well. In terms of overall performce, many North American models rank midpack, again with some very good cars and some poor performers.

--European cars have become known for being excellent cars... except in reliability. From what I've heard, many European makes are suffering from electrical problems--notably Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz. While some of these problems may have been ironed out, you'll find numerous reports of problems with some European makes. Some models are fairly reliable, but few are near the top.

I'm basing my views off the various reliability surveys I've come across as well as a number of peoples' experiences, and it's quite possible to have no problems in a car with a bad reputation (and vice-versa). Hope this helps!|||when buying a car first look at government crash test ratings.second, gas mileage. third, price. personally, i wouldnt hesitate buying a hyundai.|||Well for quality most Japanese manufacturers are on top.

Hello does any one know if its possible to fit a roof rack or roof bars on a 2005 Daewoo matiz?

I've never seen a Matiz with a roof rack fitted while I've been on the road here in the UK, does this mean they can not be fitted to a Matiz, please help.|||Roof bars were factory fitted to some Korean-spec versions of the Matiz.

However they were a styling item only, and were not designed to carry any load.

Most cars have a manufacturer's recommended maximum roof load, stated in the owner's handbook.

However I know that the manufacturer recommended no load was carried on the roof of the original 1998 M100 Matiz, and expect that the same was true for the later M200 version available in 2005.

Check your handbook, in case there is a stated load (it is 50kg for many small and medium sized cars), but if no maximum load is stated, assume it is zero.|||Yes, it is possible.

Here are some ideas:

So if you want to spend thousands for a new motor and mechanics labor, go ahead and use water.|||You can only use regular water as a temporary fix.

Anti-freeze is a must in vehicles because it won't freeze (water freezes, especially at -22) and it has anti-rust inhibitors that keep engine parts from rusting.|||Yes, you must put antifreeze in it, otherwise you'll regret it one day.|||To conform with the ITV (MOT) you must have the correct mixture af water and antifreeze in the radiator. Do I have to wait until the transmission breaks to get service? And if it really is unserviceable how long do these transmission hold out (my car's 80,000 miles old)?|||Go to any major auto parts store and see if they have a Chilton's manual for your car. Even if you don't do your own repairs, this can help you understand what's being done with/to your car. An automatic has a pan underneath that can be taken off to drain the old oil and replace the filter, so look underneath to see if yours has one. If so, find a new mechanic. I can't imagine anyone making any transmission that can't be serviced, not with cars commonly being used to 200,000 miles now.|||Not sure on the logistics, but it uses a GM transmission, the same one found in the Sunfire and probably the Cavalier. What does the yellow light shaped like an engine mean on a daewoo nexia car?

it is not the oil or ignition light, could it be gearbox?

or computer fault?|||got it on a vauxhall corsa. it is an engine management light but nobody knows whats up with it. we find also it works better when its on lol|||It's the check engine light. You need to take it for service so it can be hooked up to a computer that can read the code. It could be something very minor or something bigger. As long as it's not flashing at you, it's probably nothing too big. Before you take it to the dealer, you may want to check your gas cap to make sure it is on tight. Take it all the way off and put it back on. If the gas cap is not on tight enough, it will break the vacuum and cause your check engine light to come on.|||it could be many things, the computer monitors the engine systems through sensors and although at a garage they can hook up to a computer which actually says what the fault is, all you get is an annoying warning light which basically is saying spend money on me. still l heard say that RAC vans are now fitted out with the diagnostic kit, so if you are a member.or you have a friend who is well that is a cheaper option.|||ECU (engine management) light I believe. You need to get the car hooked up to a fault code reader at a garage and it will say what the problem is that's causing the light to come on. Quite likely just a faulty sensor or something by the way.||| there is a problem with your engine.... Take it to a repair shop... they can hook it up to the computer and read what the problem is and repair it....

Here online, I dont think we have enough info to give ya a good guess :(|||It could be ALOT of things. Before you take it in to the shop just check that your gas cap is secured correctly. If it wasn't then secure it, %26amp; drive the car a few more miles to see if it goes out. If it doesn't you are right, you'll need a code reader to get the real story.|||too many to list|||you can unplug the battery and it will go away. it might come back, maybe not. depending on what it is. you won't know. or you could do nothing, in which case you'll continue driving with a known error condition, possibly forcing your computer into a rich air/fuel mixture mode or some other feature. if you suffer a fuel economy problem, your error is probably emissions/fuel related. you'll also be doing damage to your car, like fouling the o2 sensors. the best thing to do is buy a code reader, or take it to a parts store that will allow you to use theirs, and then fix your problem.|||If the car is running fine, it's the computer, you need to take it to the dealership and have it reset, that happens once and a while. Is this a problem with the Matiz or this particular car?|||It is. Daewoo recalled a load of Matiz to have the gearbox reworked. The problem is due to a couple of washers, however the gearbox needs stripping. Daewoo knew of this problem a long time ago, but refused to do anything about it. I knew of cases where the rework had been done once, gone wrong again and Daewoo would not cover the cost of the work.|||High the oil in the gearbox of the Matiz needs to be changed that why when it gets hot the oil heats and expsands and then the parts get when you oil is to old change very often .. i have a matiz and i was told to strip it down but alls it needed was the oil change in the gear box

How to stick backview mirror inside a Daewoo car?Have tried all brands of glues with garages' suggestions.

Never thought that fixing a Mirror on the Windscreen will be so difficult. The mirror just does not stick inspite of all cleaning procedures. The maximum the mirror has stayed stuck is 3 months. There must be some better ways to fix the mirror. All kinds of glues available in the garages were used with varying results. There is no glue strong enough to hold the mirror in place for more than 3 months.

Have tried the vaccum mirrors but they don't provide the visual fields at all and nothing is visible because the adjustment is very limited.

I will greatly appreciate advice in fixing the mirror permanently.

|||Ditto, put it down to experience, cut the roof off, full with water and add gold fish .... call it art.|||What kind of mechanics do you have? I'm no Daewoo expert, but I am mechanic (for 55 plus years). Here is what I would be looking for........ Vacuum leaks, - too much air entering intake system would make engine run lean and rough, possibly dying!-- (Air entering into induction system after the throttle body increases airflow, but not fuel flow!)! I would also check compression to see that the engine was not weak, because of low compression, - due to valves needing adjustment, - or burnt valves! It is possible that "wear" has allowed the valves to become too tight (as valves work,- they keep working upward- from wear on seats and valves). This is compensated for pretty well on hydraulic valve lifters,- but adjustable valve lifters,- (like lots of overhead camshaft engines use) need adjusting occasionally) Then there is ignition you could have plugs that are badly worn, or have wrong gaps on them! Or even "carbon tracks inside distributer that allow spark to go where it isn't supposed to go,- or partially grounding out on a plug or two (check ignition wires to plugs too)!

All these things,-except vaccuum leaks- (which should be noticed if they are very big anyway) are things checked on a "general tuneup"! And since it is computerized, it needs a computer anylisis, - (not a "guess" search).

I don't care what kind of car the engine is in, engines work on the same principle, and are pretty much diagnosed the same, differences are in design, and parts, - so being "different" is no excuse for not checking out properly! Yes some have "weak spots in one area or another, and yes some break down a whole lot more than others! but "cute remarks" like the ones you are getting are pretty much showing the intelligence of the writers! If you are looking for humour, go buy a Jacob Smiernoff tape, or Gottfreid tape, - you don't need it when you are trrying to get your car to run right!

What could cause a 2001 daewoo lanos to smoke from the tail pipe?

It doesn't appear to be a head gasket. are there common problems that they have?|||Does it smoke constantly? May be burning oil, that could be a lot of things from a bad pcv valve to worn rings. Could also be coolant leaking into the cylinders, bad head gasket, bad intake manifold gasket, etc

Daewoos are cheaper, and the early ones were based on old Vauxhall designs. Replacement hoses should be readily available to fit from your local motor factor. Halfords replacements are a bit generic and are fine for straight lengths, but if you have more than 1 or 2 bends go for a properly made hose. If the radiator is gone, I got one brand new for my Honda from the link below. Shows a Matiz radiator for æ‹¢35

Good luck to you :-)|||What I would do is take it to a mechanic and have them verify whether or not it is just the hose that needs replacing. Then if it is just the hose, odds are you know someone who knows how to take care of cars. Offer them $20 to replace it. But beware, it could also be a hole in your radiator making the noise and that could cost you some big bucks to fix. You may also want to see if your car is still under warranty. Thankyou|||Call for free to your dealer and ask if the engine in your car is a non-interference engine if it is then your in luck. the labor for your average timing belt is about 5 hours ( ask for labor rate too and do the math ie 5 hrs times rate) a timing belt runs for about 60 dollars (? quid) If your engine is an interference engine then your probably out of luck but there may be hope but not likely, what happens on an interference engine is the piston will hit you valves when the two get out of sync and require a replace meant of all the valves and possibly piston a very large bill.|||It may be cheaper to get a new car depending on the reason it needs replacing...

If you're replacing because the timing belt snapped, you're looking at a very large bill indeed because it damages the rest of the engine.|||Did you ever think of going to the main dealer, on your way to university if necessary, and asking them ?

Crap car, I know, but it'll be fun...|||if the timming belt has broken when the engine was running there is a strong possibilty that the engine was totally destroyed first you need to do a comperssion test if there is no compression then you are looking at a lot of money and i dont think a dead goat would buy it in that state|||You should be able to buy the official Daewoo workshop manual from your local Chevrolet dealer. Why is Daewoo Lanos so cheap in Australia? What is the catch?

I know its stopped manufacturing. Should I buy one? I am a student and cannot afford anything expensive.|||Probably not. Car parts are hard to find and repairs probably more expensive because of this so if you need to fix something in the car, it would be harder. The 1997-2003 Daewoo Lanos was also assessed in Aust's Used Car Ratings 2006 to have worse than average protection for its occupants in the case of a crash. There are plenty of other cheap good cars to buy in Aust, both used and new. Shop around and find a better deal. I too am sorely tempted to buy a Daewoo, in this case a Nubira, but after a bit of research am seriously re-thinking. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Number_鈥?/a>|||It's probably easier to turn it into a spacecraft than a time machine.

Your best bet would be to launch it as a payload using a rocket, allowing it to reach orbital velocity. You would then at least be able to move it about in orbit. If you were happy to keep it "un-personed", you wouldn't need to protect the internal environment so much. I would say attach a series of solid propellant rockets to it, pointing in six directions like the surface of a cube, and control it using some kind of radio communication receiver device. If you wanted something really fancy, try sticking some cameras in the headlights and have them send signals back to you, maybe by packet radio.|||You need to lose the crack pipe and pick up a book. Back To The Future was a MOVIE.|||Isn't it challenging enough just to get a Daewoo to start?

About how much should fixing a cracked head on a 2000 daewoo cost?

just a rough estimate of parts and labor. don't know alot about cars and i don't want to get raped. thanks!|||I quess it would cost you more than the car is worth. If a shop does the whole job, finding a used head is almost impossible. To find the gaskets and other parts is going to be tough also. I had a Kia head repaired and just the machine shop was $750. Plus the parts and labor on top of that your talking $1500. to $2000. Is a 2000 DAEWOO worth that kind of money? I personally don't think so. But call around to a couple of shops. I could be wrong.|||It is alot cheapter to locate a serviceable used head and have the mechanice work done than til to repair a unserviceable. A new head is almost cheapter.|||replace with guaranteed rebuilt engine or get rid of the car. either will be more practical.|||if its cracked, you will need another head, but it depends on who works on it, how much they will charge you.|||Parts can be found at www.daewoous.com. They are still open and will sell you parts. It would be best to buy the fully assembled head if it is reasonable. Check ebay for used but warrantied heads also. Good Luck!!

My Daewoo Korando recently had a mini service with spark plugs replaced. Now it is misfiring any ideas?

The car starts fine but it is very difficult (slow) up hills. However, sometimes after it has been sitting for a while it drives ok.|||If it ran better before you changed the plugs you can pretty much bet there lies your problem. To make sure all the plugs are on correctly slide the boot up the plug wire till you see the clip (this may not be possible on some wires), push it on the plug and then push the boot down over the plug. Check that all the wires are firmly pressed into the distributor, they sometimes get pulled out when being tugged on replacing plugs.

If that's not it you may have gotten a bad plug or one could have been dropped and cracked the porcelain on the plug. Check the gap on each plug.

But being sporadic and the plugs and wires recently messed with I'd guess one of the wire clips is touching but not snapped down on the plug.|||I would replace the fuel filter and have the plug wires checked you can take an omen meter to check those , hope this helps.|||The ignition could be misfiring and you might detect the problem by parking the car in a darkly lit location with the parking brake applied. Then open the hood and after your eyes adjust to the dark, see if any sparks can be seen flying off the top of the engine where the spark plug wires run. If so, spark is leaking off to ground before it can get to the spark plugs and you have a bad plug connection or bad plug ignition wire. Have a friend punch the accelerator pedal a few times to help see the sparks leaking off the wires.|||Sounds to me like one of the spark plugs is gaped wrong.

Some one could have inadvertently bent the electrode by dropping the spark plug.

Or, one of the spark plug wires isn't pushed on all the way.

Gently tug on them to make sure they're connected.|||could be spark plug wire not snapped in place properly, could be that when it was removed it separated the end from the wire, and the person who did this either didn't realize what happened or didn't want to have to replace the wire... I would guess the latter since he should have listened to and driven the vehicle after...

In any case, thats what I would check...

Then I would sell the car for whatever I could get ASAP as they are total garbage and out of business...Good Luck..|||YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.|||they put the wrong spark plugs in it|||some cars will run with wires crossed. I would check to see if that happened.

if it runs fine after sitting awhile, that blows the first paragraph all to hell.

I would bring it back to who did the tuneup.|||may not have anything to do with the plugs sounds like it could possibly be a bad catalytic converter.

How many inches is the back speakers in a 1999 Daewoo Lanos?

My back speakers in my car are stuffed, one doesn't work at all and the other one rattles, I was wondering how many inches they are so I could buy new ones.|||I looked it up online and they claim to 6 3/4" (most 6.5" will fit too) speakers in the rear and 4" in the front. Some nice Kickers or JL Audios would sound nice in a smaller car like yours. Worst case, you just take it apart and find out. Hope this helps a little.|||prob 6.5 but others will fit

Is it possible to replace both front and rear bushings on a lower control arm of Daewoo Nubira 1997?

I am pretty sure that the front bushing is replaceable, it is the rear one which I am interested about.

Also -- afaik, in 2000 Nubira was modified and after that date it is definitely possible to change both bushings. What about 1997?|||Your local parts house should be able to tell you availability of the bushings. Some vehicles require replacement of the whole arm. Also being a Daewoo it might be harder to find the parts.

What are the front and back speaker dimensions in a Daewoo Kalos 2003?

Im looking at upgrading my audio system, well lack there of as the standard system isnt that great, so any suggestions on the type of speakers I should look at would be appreciated:) Thanks guys...|||i am not sure what the sizes of the speakers are but i know that pioneer are good they are loud but also sensitive to bass and kenwood are good they produce clearer sound but are expensive and kicker are loud but don't know how much. i hope i helped some sorry if i didn't
