Possible cause of Check engine light on a 2000 Daewoo lanos?

I will probably need to put a code reader on it, but I wanted to see if anyone could tell me what the cause of their check engine light was. 2000 Daewoo Lanos, 4cyl.

Thanks.|||It needs to be hooked to a diagnostic machine. It could be anything from a vacuum leak to an electrical problem. No way to tell without the code from the engine computer.|||How many miles on it? Do you take good care of it? It could be anything from routine maintenance to an engine compression leak. Here online, I dont think we have enough info to give ya a good guess :(|||It could be ALOT of things. What are the cars symptoms?|||It used to mean that the catalytic converter needed servicing, but now it can be any number of things. Before you take it in to the shop just check that your gas cap is secured correctly. If it wasn't then secure it, %26amp; drive the car a few more miles to see if it goes out. If it doesn't you are right, you'll need a code reader to get the real story.|||too many to list|||you can unplug the battery and it will go away. it might come back, maybe not. depending on what it is. you won't know. or you could do nothing, in which case you'll continue driving with a known error condition, possibly forcing your computer into a rich air/fuel mixture mode or some other feature. if you suffer a fuel economy problem, your error is probably emissions/fuel related. you'll also be doing damage to your car, like fouling the o2 sensors. the best thing to do is buy a code reader, or take it to a parts store that will allow you to use theirs, and then fix your problem.|||If the car is running fine, it's the computer, you need to take it to the dealership and have it reset, that happens once and a while. As long as there is no engine problems, you know you got a computer problem it's no big deal they can reset it.
