What makes check engine light come on on a 2000 Daewoo Leganza SE?

On my way home yesterday (9/24/10) the check engine light came on. I have since checked the gas cap, checked and added oil and antifreeze/coolant today (9/25/10) but the light is still on. I have not driven it since. It is a solid light not blinking. Does anyone know what can make the light come on and how do I fix this problem? Thanks in advance!|||Your cars computer is reporting a problem you can get a free scan from any auto part supply store. You may have fixed the problem but the code will take time to erase. the scanner can also delete the problem codes.|||Yes, a loose gas cap can turn on the check engine light (and truthfully most of the CEL I see are related to it). No, the light will not come on for low oil or antifreeze (those have their own lights that would come on).

Check engine lights can come on for so many different reasons that this question can't be answered online. You need to get the codes read and then depending what the code is go from there.|||It may not be serious unless it is blinking.

However, to be on the safe side take it in and have a diagnostic ran on it to see what is causing it.

Could be EGR or a number of other things.|||anything and everything can make that good ol check engine light come on. best bet, bring it to a garage
